Independent Study
As a professional web designer, and long time college student, I have found my way into the communications building a time or two. Over the past two years, I have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Zeng on several occasions including invitations to come to her class to speak on the subject of professional website development and design.
I am nearing graduation from the Computer Science program, and I thought it would be helpful to take Dr. Zeng's class which introduces the internet to students in a fun and informative structure that allows the students to eventually create a web project and obtain client work as the semester progresses. After speaking with Dr. Zeng, it was strongly suggested that I should pursue an independent study course alongside the normal coursework in the introduction class.
My intentions are to pursue an independent study this semester and continue to influence students to learn to use the web in a productive and creative way. I am currently participating in the course as a normally enrolled student.
My coursework would include several website development projects and research on new technologies as well as developments happening within the website development and design industry. I am currently an active member in Jonesboro Coworking, BarCamp Jonesboro, Refresh Jonesboro, and other business organizations which give me a chance to influence people and teach the things that I learn along the way.
This type of coursework is very attractive to me, and has sparked interest within myself to possibly pursue a masters degree which focuses on digital communication. I have also been involved with Dr. Jeff Jenness of the Computer Science Dept. to incorporate several departments within the university in order to create a coursework and degree plan structure that better prepares students to become talented website developers. It is my dream to see ASU offer a degree that is forthcoming and compatible with new trends and professional applications of website application design.
